Austen is a PhD student in the Cornell Sociology department. They are interested in culture, politics, and network analysis, combining mathematical theory and computational analysis to investigate how people interact around controversial topics and how beliefs change. They previously worked as a research assistant at the Brookings Institution’s Center on Social Dynamics and Policy, and received a BA in Applied Math / Economics from Brown University.
